FRAMEWORK
Design and develop an inviting retreat for visiting poets within the fishing village of Pavilosta in Latvia using green building practices. The retreat should offer space for poets to live and work for a defined period of time. Accommodations should include a small local exhibition space for performances, poetry readings, and meditation sessions. In addition, the retreat should feature a common area for dinning and cooking with separate private accommodations for the host family. The retreat features five (5) private huts for visiting poets to utilize for solitude, working, and sleeping with storage and washing amenities.

DESIGN APPROACH
Find the balance between the user experience and building performance influenced the programming of the site and building development. Imaging what a typical day of a visiting poet might intel provided the framework around the amenities provided, including the introduction of tranquil coves for reflection, bending paths for morning bike rides, community gardens for poets and the host to tend to and harvest in preparation for nightly communal dinners. Gallery space to experience and express art through performance and display along with outdoor movies in the park. Keeping the user programming in mind the site development focuses on ecological practices of restoring the once former farmland back to natural state with reforesting and water retention efforts to control access water on the property for flood prevention. In addition, the site is graded to create an earth burn to bury half of the building to aid in passive heating and cooling design. performance.
