DESIGN APPROACH

Education, safety, healthy lifestyle and environment, and access are all key factors to consider when exploring the quality of life a neighborhood may offer its residence. Examining Springwells through this lens provides the foundation into identifying the attributes present within Springwells and the opportunities that can expand from them. Based on these observations of Springwells, four key policies are presented: the promotion of healthy living, creation of social and educational environments, improved circulation, safety, access, and to provide purpose to unoccupied spaces. These polices would be implemented through Lot Development, and Circulation Development centered around major social hubs around Springwells. The proposed Block and Circulation Development improves access and connection to different third places proposed and existing. Introducing wayfinding pedestrian routes to increase awareness of community attributes, street murals to slow down traffic at key intersection, and introducing buffer zones along bike lanes for safer pedestrian and cycle travel.
